Radioactive Spices and Some Newsletter Housekeeping
Ciao Everyone!
Today instead of a recipe I have some disturbing news about a spice. I’m not sure you use this spice, but with the holidays around the corner you may be thinking about it. I know I am.
CLOVES
I know you’re thinking it’s nothing to be afraid of, but whether it was one shipment or more it is something to think about and be aware of.
In a news release, the FDA said U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Long Beach detected Cesium-137 in a shipping container earlier this month. The agency said follow-up testing confirmed the isotope’s presence in one sample of cloves.
The cloves, along with shrimp from a separate Indonesian exporter, PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati, were added to a nationwide import alert released on Sept. 18 that has barred any future shipments from these companies until they take steps to prove their products are no longer at risk of contamination.

Housekeeping!
Since I had my brain surgery I tend to forget things I should remember, and remember I don’t need to remember. Weird, I know.
Let’s start with what I do need to remember. WELCOME to all the new readers on DelPaggio’s Cucina. It means a great deal to both Patti and me that you have allowed us into your home.
The recipes coming from our kitchen are all homemade. Majority of them come from my grandmother and grandfather who I taught me almost everything I know about cooking while living in Sicily.
Any recipe I post from scratch is something I have cooked numerous times. They are also recipes I have experimented with and tried new ways to make them. Some of them were good changes, others not great. Just know I will let you know the good ones from the bad ones. Not everyone is perfect, and I know I am far from perfect.
PayWall!
We killed the paywall. We didn’t see it working out as we would like. It put too much pressure on our readers, so we went with Buy Me a Coffee.
You pick when, where, how much, and how often to contribute to our work. If you decide not to, it’s not big deal. All we ask is that if we are doing a good job, let others know about our work. Giving a recommendation is many times woth its weight in gold.
Buon Appetito!
Mark & Patti
