Buongiorno!
I posted a video the other day about the pots and pans I use in my kitchen. I failed to discuss how vital a pasta pan is, especially if you like to cook pasta as much as I do.
I use a pot (pictured above) 90 percent of the time because I'm cooking 2-3 pounds of pasta to feed the entire family.
That doesn't mean you need a pot like the above for your pasta needs.
Surprisingly you can cook a 1/4 pound of pasta in a deep frying pan. Whether spaghetti or some other pasta, that little amount of water will work as long as the pasta is covered.
My grandmother always taught me never to use oil and salt the water generously. She would say almost as salty as the sea you swim in.
As a kid, I always tried to remember what seawater tasted like off the coast of Catania, Sicily. As a kid, my imagination ran wild with my idea of what the water tasted like. My grandmother, thank God, taught me to rein in my imagination and use common sense.
Guessing the amount of salt to use is a guessing game and is totally up to you; remember, pasta doesn't have much flavor, at least most of the time.
All pasta is not created equally; over time, you'll know how much salt you need depending on the pasta you prepare.
I'm probably telling you something you know already, but to be on the safe side, I thought I'd add it to the video.
Buon Apppetito!
Ciao!
